Young Musicians Festival Competitions 2024 

The Young Musicians Festival and Competitions is a performance events serie for school-aged music students. It is held every semester to promote music education in the tri-state (Maryland, West Virginia, Pennsylvania), Virginia, and the district of Columbia communities.  The YMFC provides a public performance opportunity for students aged 5-18 who are receiving private instrumental and/or voice instruction.

Students performing on any instrument are welcome, and they are expected to prepare and perform one or two pieces from memory. 

YMFC bring together school-aged musicians from beginning to advanced levels. Gifted and prodigious musicians also participate in our events and deliver the following performances:

• Instrumental solo (guitar, piano, saxophone, violin, clarinet, flute,  etc.)
• Music groups (duet and trio) 
• Vocal solo

YMFC provides a chance for young musicians (and parents!) to reflect upon where they’ve “come from” when watching beginning and advanced school-aged musicians. Parents and music teachers can remind them of the gains they have made and motivates them to continue to progress.

Live Performances at the Potomac Playmakers Theatre

The next event will be held on August 10th.  Performers will feel the joy of making great music at the Potomac Playmakers, the second oldest community theater in Maryland. 

 We provide an opportunity for you to show your child that you value their involvement in music:

• Selected candidates will improve their performance skills
• Young musicians will gain confidence in front of an audience
• These skills will serve your child well in many other areas of his or her life 
• All performers will receive a certificate according to the achievement rating
• The best category performers will receive an award from the YMFC

YMFC gives your child an opportunity to share their hard work with the ones they love.  It’s rare that you have the opportunity to focus only on your child and the music they are making. These moments matter. 

The YMFC registration fees are:

• $30/one performance
• $50/two performances
• $60/one duet performance
• $75/one band/group performance

PARENTS, GUARDIANS, and MUSIC INSTRUCTORS should apply for candidates.  Sign up early for a guaranteed time slot of your student/child’s choice! 

Online registration closes on Saturday, July 19th! 

The selected candidates receive a  listing program information of the concert on August 1st.
